How do LGBTQ characters make their way in a world that is always changing, but not always welcoming?

This struggle makes queer fiction a form that is always socially aware, passionately so. In his novel,  Hide, Matthew Griffin’s long-loving couple makes their way against a changing social background;  nick White’s characters in  How to Survive a Summer struggle through a “gay conversion” summer camp; Felice Picano’s work has long chronicled the changing backdrop of gay life, and Gar Mcvey-russell’s Sin Against the Race portrays a young African-American gay man’s struggle to find his place in the community.
